SAbyNA Culminates in Successful Final Event

By Daniel Leitat  Published On 13/03/2024

The SAbyNA project, a driving force for safe and sustainable nanomaterials, held its final event on March 5, 2024, in Vienna, Austria. The event, which coincided with the ANTHOS gathering, marked a significant milestone for the project and served as a platform to showcase its achievements.
The day unfolded as a vibrant exchange of knowledge and collaboration. Roundtables buzzed with discussions between project coordinators, European Commission representatives, and industry stakeholders. Presentations offered a comprehensive look at the progress made by SAbyNA, along with other NMBP-15 funded projects. Attendees were particularly engaged by the live demonstrations, where the project’s innovative Safety by Design tools were brought to life.
But the true essence of the event lay in the fostering of connections. Participants actively networked with experts in the Safe and Sustainable by Design field, exchanging ideas and forging collaborations that will continue to shape the future of nanotechnology.
While the official project activities are nearing their end, the SAbyNA team remains dedicated to ensuring a lasting impact. The project website will be maintained, serving as a valuable resource for those seeking information on the developed tools and best practices. Additionally, the team will continue to disseminate knowledge through publications and presentations, keeping the momentum going.

A Look Back: The SAbyNA Project in Detail

Funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 program, SAbyNA embarked on a four-year journey to empower the nanomaterials industry with the necessary resources to prioritize safety. The project consortium, a multinational force of 17 partners from, led by Leitat Technological Center in Spain.
Their collective efforts culminated in the development of the SAbyNA Guidance Platform – a user-friendly, web-based tool that equips industry players with the knowledge and guidance required for the safe design, development, and use of nanomaterials. This comprehensive platform delves into crucial aspects such as hazard assessment, exposure assessment, risk assessment, and effective risk management strategies.
By providing clear and accessible resources, the SAbyNA project has paved the way for a future where nanotechnological advancements are achieved with a unwavering commitment to safety. The project’s legacy will continue to inspire responsible innovation in the field of nanomaterials for years to come.
